Fair wear and tear or damage? Document the condition

Depending on the circumstances, the rental deposit may cover outstanding rent or service charges and damage attributable to the tenant. Any withholding should be supported by evidence. Fair wear and tear is not damage for which the tenant is responsible.

Rental deposit: check the applicable rules

The permitted amount of the deposit, the conditions and timing of its return, and any available remedies depend on the legal framework and the individual tenancy. Consult the official sources below for current information about deadlines and procedures.

Please note: this tool is a practical aid and does not provide personalised legal advice. An inventory signed by both parties is important evidence, but other evidence may also be considered depending on the circumstances. Fast Clean does not guarantee the outcome of the inspection or the return of the rental deposit. If a dispute arises, consult the official sources or seek qualified advice.
